Much like the 4S29 movement inside the Brightz SAGN005, or the 4S27 movement inside the Brightz SAGN007, the 7J21 movement inside this watch was at the top of Seiko’s class at the time of its release. In fact, other than the legendary 9F Grand Seiko HAQ (±10 seconds per year), the 7J21 is still one of the most reliable quartz movements made by Seiko (±20 seconds per year).

The Colour. But unlike the other pragmatically dressed SAGJ reference I’ve written about before, with their black, whites and blue tones, the SAGJ017 stands alone in bold defiance of Seiko’s standard colourways. Salmon pink. And it wears it exceptionally well.

The Rarity. Released in the early 2000s, and only in Japan, this watch was hard to track down at the time and even harder to find in good condition now. Often seen as a grail collection, and a precursor to the ambition of Grand Seiko’s high movement specs and high spec finishing.

The Movement. The watch is powered by a neo-vintage HAQ movement. Accurate to ±20 seconds per year, which prompted Seiko’s marketing team to ask wearers what can you do with those 20 seconds each year? The answer is undoubtedly not a lot. Take a ride in an elevator? Open your front door for a guest? I get their point. Its an accurate watch!

Specifications:

Condition: In very good condition overall.
