Kintarō Hattori, Seiko’s founder, made it clear that he dreamt of producing a fully in-house watch. Despite his passing, his eldest son was able to realise this dream.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe In-House.\u003c\/strong\u003e Every component - the 14k gold-filled case, movement, dial, hands, and even the crystal - was made by Seiko. The original release was restrained and elegant. Seiko itself described the design as regal - subjective descriptions aside, it was certainly an ambitious precursor to the first Grand Seiko which followed a few years later.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Size.\u003c\/strong\u003e The Marvels were constructed with larger movements in mind, typically resulting in a 36mm case width - an uncommonly generous size for a 1950s Seiko. When combined with the thin bezels, the dials felt noticeably emptier than a 30mm counterpart. That additional white space would soon invite experimentation, and after several years of conservative design, Seiko began its iconic relationship with dial textures.\u003cstrong\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Dial.\u003c\/strong\u003e A golden cross-hatched dial, seemingly hand-worked.
