Model: Credor “Daimaru” GCLL993 Titanium Spring Drive

Limited Edition: 125 Pieces

Year: 2007

Features:

The Design. As part of Credor’s "24/7" collection, the lightweight titanium case and Spring Drive movement make this a daily option. Powerful lume on the numerals, elegant finishing, and a gliding second hand all ensures your eyes will keep wandering back to your wrist throughout the day.

The Occasion. Limited to 125 pieces and released in 2007, this titanium Credor marked the 290th anniversary of Daimaru, one of Japan’s most storied department stores. And no, that isn’t a typo, Daimaru is 59 years older than the United States of America. Seiko and Daimaru have long enjoyed a close relationship, with Daimaru historically getting exclusive access to some Seiko releases. Though billed as an anniversary model, it surely isn’t a coincidence that 2007 also marked Daimaru’s major merger with Matsuzakaya to create Japan’s largest department store group at the time.

The Complication. Despite Grand Seiko’s broad catalogue, they’ve never been blessed with the Moonphase Spring Drive complication. In fact, it’s been almost 20 years since Seiko made a Spring Drive Moonphase movement of any kind. And as I’m typing this, I’ve just noticed a disturbing pattern - Seiko has only ever made one Automatic Moonphase movement in its entire history, way back in 1986. Seiko, why do you hate the Moonphase complication so much? It’s frustrating, because they've created some really interesting ones, like the GCLL993 on offer today.

The Finish. Nobuyuki Hirose, master watchmaker at Seiko’s prestigious Micro Artist Studio (MAS), recently revealed that the 5R Spring Drive movement - the movement found in the GCLL993 - was the first regular production calibre MAS worked on after their early-2000s mentorship with Philippe Dufour. Dufour is widely credited with shaping Credor into the brand it is today. The MAS’ first attempts at hand-finishing "R corners” on a movement bridge can be seen on the 5R above. The work was completed with Dufour’s guidance - and the outcome is beautiful.

Specifications:

The Movement. The GCLL993 houses Credor's 5R77 movement, which is one of very few Spring Drive Moonphases in existence. Accurate to +/- 15 seconds per month, and with a 72-hour power reserve.

Do I have to pay customs or taxes?

It depends on so many factors, including but not limited to; the cost of the watch, the type of watch you've bought (vintage, new, or modified), and the import and tax laws of your country. If you're unsure we recommend checking the import laws that relate to your country before ordering.

All of our watch mods are tested by our own pressure depth testing equipment, and are guaranteed to resistant water up to 50m of depth. Seiko Originals have varied levels of depth resistance, which will be stated in the description of each watch.
