The Dial. Mother-of-pearl is a broad term that encapsulates all manner of colours and effects, but the shell chosen for the GBAQ964 is pure silver in appearance. As a result, when you turn the watch in your hands, you aren’t inundated with a kaleidoscope of iridescence - instead, you’re met with a three-dimensional effect that transforms the dial into a cumulonimbus.
The Markers. But the cloud-like qualities don’t end there. The Roman numeral hour markers aren’t on the dial at all. Instead, they’ve been etched onto a transparent sapphire layer, allowing them to float alongside the MOP dial and cast tiny shadows onto the surface beneath.
The Case. And despite its solid 18K gold case, the watch wears remarkably elegantly, helped by the ultra-thin 1.98mm 6870 calibre inside. Flip the watch over and we’re treated to it through an exhibition window. The caseback also proudly displays that it’s 30 of 30 - the final one from the very limited production - and that it was made to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the 6870 calibre.
The Anniversary. A noteworthy moment indeed - but Credor was celebrating 20 years of the 68 calibre without knowing some of its most important years were still ahead of it, as the movement continues to carry the brand forward internationally.
The Movement. At just 1.98mm thick, the 68 movement is the thinnest mechanical calibre ever produced by Seiko. Each one takes two highly skilled Credor watchmakers half a day to assemble.
