The Harmony. The dial does the impossible - it balances the power reserve indicator. It’s not something I’ve ever been troubled by, but judging by comments online, a lot of people are unhappy with the asymmetry its existence causes. The clever addition of the small seconds subdial not only brings harmony do the dial, but it has the added benefit of giving the watch a distinctly vintage look.
The Clean Look. Of course, it’s possible to put the power reserve indicator on the back, as seen on the SBGY007 Omiwatari, but I’d suggest the empty void this creates has to be satiated with something - which is why SPRING DRIVE is emblazoned across its dial. In contrast, the SBGK007 is wonderfully devoid of noisy text. Despite the inclusion of the PRI and small seconds, I would argue it feels quieter and more subdued than the Omiwatari’s “simpler” dial.
The Dial. Speaking of the dial - white, silver, or yellow? It depends who you ask. Grand Seiko calls it “clean white”, which is interesting, because I don’t think either word is quite right. It’s closer to ivory or soft champagne - almost as if a white 1960s dial has aged gracefully. And “clean”? Not quite. Fine striations radiate from the centre, creating a gentle sunburst texture.
The Profile. As you may already know, converting central seconds into small seconds allows the watch to shave ~1.0mm off its height, but Grand Seiko didn’t stop there on its quest to ensure the watch slips under any cuff. The dial itself curves downwards at the edges, allowing the crystal to slope more steeply and meet the case edge more quickly. It’s a subtle effect, but the results become obvious if you study the inward angle of the lugs - their shape is clearly informed by the slender profile.
The Accuracy. This is unmistakably a dress watch, confirmed by the use of a manual-wind movement. The mechanical 9S63 beats at 28,800bph, features 33 jewels, and is tested beyond Switzerland’s COSC standard. While COSC require testing in five positions, at three temperatures, with an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day, all over 15 days, Grand Seiko has opted for a more rigorous method. Six positions. Three temperatures. -3/+5 seconds accuracy. 17 days. This thing is accurate. +/- 0 seconds per day on my timegrapher.
The Caseback. The movement is proudly displayed through an exhibition caseback. Geneva stripes decorate the bridges, and a barely visible Grand Seiko lion is etched into the glass. So subtle, in fact, that I couldn’t photograph it - but I promise it’s there for anyone willing to hunt it at the right angle in the right light.

FAQs
Are your watches authentic?
Everything we sell is 100% authentic.
All of our watches are inspected and verified for authenticity - both inside and out. We have over 15 years of sourcing and collecting rare watches in Japan, which is often considered to be one of the best markets for authentic and fully original vintage watches.
Do you ship globally?
We are based in Japan and regularly ship all over the world. We typically use FedEx and it takes:
- 3-7 business days to reach North America
- 3-7 business days to reach Europe
- 3-7 business days to reach Asia and Oceania.
All of our packages are securely shipped, fully insured, and trackable door-to-door.
What condition are your watches?
Due to the vintage and neo-vintage nature of the watches we typically sell, the condition varies from watch to watch. However, our photos are high resolution and our descriptions are accurate. You can buy with confidence knowing there won't be any nasty surprises.
If the condition of a watch is ever misrepresented, we would offer a full refund.
Are all of your watches serviced?
Most but not all of our watches are serviced. The "Condition" section of each watch will confirm if the watch has been serviced.
All of our watches are tested by an independent watchmaker - if a service is needed, the watch will be serviced. If a service hasn't been conducted, it's because the watch itself is too new to need a service, or there is evidence of a recent service.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept payment by all major Credit Cards and Wise.com
Do I have to pay customs or taxes?
It depends on so many factors, including but not limited to the cost of the watch, the type of watch you've bought (vintage or new), and the import laws of your country. If you're unsure we recommend checking the import laws that relate to your country before ordering.
Are your watches water resistant?
Our serviced watches are typically tested to their original water resistant specifications, but we would never recommend pushing vintage or neo-vintage watches to their depth limits.
What is your returns policy?
Due to the vintage and neo-vintage nature of most of our watches, we do not offer returns under normal circumstances. All sales should be considered final.
