Features:

The Secret. On the surface, the SBGY008 is a solid gold spring drive with a textured dial befitting its Elegance Collection origin. But it’s got a secret - and I’m not referring to the delightful 9R31 calibre with its hidden power reserve. This secret is hiding in plain sight.

The Diamonds. On the wrist they’re invisible, but it’s otherwise hard to hide the 53 immaculately cut diamonds - all hand-selected to perfectly taper along the curvature of the case. By their sparkly nature, diamonds on a bezel force themselves to centre stage when they should never be anything more than decoration. Inlaying the diamonds into the side of the rose gold case allows them to complement the overall design without ever upstaging the watch itself.

The Inspiration. Grand Seiko calls this design shizuri-yuki [垂雪], referring to the shimmering cascade of snow that falls from a tree branch as it bends under the weight. The diamonds themselves provide the sparkle of the shizuri-yuki, while the crisp white textured dial is the fallen snow. 

The Case. It was designed for Grand Seiko’s Dress Series in 2019, and its unique silhouette makes it immediately identifiable from any angle. According to its designer, the shape was inspired by the curvature of a ship’s sail billowing in the wind. Viewed from the side, the case, dial and dual-curved crystal all sweep downwards towards the wrist, creating a profile that’s considerably sleeker than most Grand Seikos.

The Movement. The case’s dimensions are aided by the slimline 9R31 that powers the watch. At 10.2mm thick, it’s one of the thinnest Grand Seiko spring drives - but its biggest buff is something I briefly touched on earlier. The power reserve has been moved from the front of the watch, where it’s often derided by enthusiasts, to the back of the watch, where it’s liked by all. It can be seen through an exhibition caseback, the crystal of which has been lightly frosted with the GS lion - only visible from certain angles.

Are your watches authentic?

Everything we sell is 100% authentic.

All of our watches are inspected and verified for authenticity - both inside and out. We have over 15 years of sourcing and collecting rare watches in Japan, which is often considered to be one of the best markets for authentic and fully original vintage watches.

Do you ship globally?

We are based in Japan and regularly ship all over the world. We typically use FedEx and it takes:

  • 3-7 business days to reach North America
  • 3-7 business days to reach Europe
  • 3-7 business days to reach Asia and Oceania.

All of our packages are securely shipped, fully insured, and trackable door-to-door.

Are all of your watches serviced?

Most but not all of our watches are serviced. The "Condition" section of each watch will confirm if the watch has been serviced.

All of our watches are tested by an independent watchmaker - if a service is needed, the watch will be serviced. If a service hasn't been conducted, it's because the watch itself is too new to need a service, or there is evidence of a recent service.

What condition are your watches?

Due to the vintage and neo-vintage nature of the watches we typically sell, the condition varies from watch to watch. However, our photos are high resolution and our descriptions are accurate. You can buy with confidence knowing there won't be any nasty surprises.

If the condition of a watch is ever misrepresented, we would offer a full refund.

Do I have to pay customs or taxes?

It depends on so many factors, including but not limited to the cost of the watch, the type of watch you've bought (vintage or new), and the import laws of your country. If you're unsure we recommend checking the import laws that relate to your country before ordering.

Are your watches water resistant?

Our serviced watches are typically tested to their original water resistant specifications, but we would never recommend pushing vintage or neo-vintage watches to their depth limits.

What is your returns policy?

Due to the vintage and neo-vintage nature of most of our watches, we do not offer returns under normal circumstances. All sales should be considered final.
