The Craftsmanship. It’s hard to believe at this price point, but each dial is hand lacquered by one man! Isshu Tamura is one of very few Japanese artisans who still practice the traditional Kanazawa art of “Urushi” Lacquering; a hardening technique that can be found on Japanese tableware as far back as 7000 BC. The result is a hyper-polished looking, rich black dial. For both visual and textural contrast, the hands have been dusted in golden flakes. I truly don’t know how Seiko made money selling these. Only 15 dials could be made each day!
The Movement. Inside is a 6R27, which is essentially a hi-beat upgrade to the more standard Presage 6R15 movement. It’s a 28,888 bph, with 29 jewels, a circular date complication and a power reserve indicator.
Condition: In great condition. Any marks are tiny and hard to notice.
